Under-eye Bags and Dark Circles
Prof. Dr. Orhan Görgülü1 minute read
Dark circles and bags under the eye are mostly genetic. Sleeping position, alcohol and some allergic conditions only trigger them and make them worse.
Why they form
The eye is surrounded by a special fat. A protective barrier called the orbital septum holds that fat in place.
With age, and for genetic reasons, the septum loosens and the fat pushes it forward. That is the bag.
At the same time the bone of the face thins with age, so the bone moves backwards. A hollow appears under the eye because of that. The hollow itself is small, and the shadow it casts makes it look deep.
What filler can and cannot do
Problems of this kind are largely solved with under-eye filler.
One point has to be made clearly. Filler does not solve every problem under the eye. It works on most of the hollowing, the dark shadows and the circles. The same cannot be said of under-eye bags.
In people over a certain age, and in anyone with large bags, the answer is lower eyelid surgery.
