Facial Filler

With age the fat pads of the face support it less, and the amount of collagen falls so the skin loses elasticity. The face then loses volume, and wrinkles, lines and creases appear.

Filler is used to fight this, to restore the wrinkles and the lost volume, and to add volume where the face has sagged.

What fillers are made of

Fillers containing hyaluronic acid are among the types used most today.

How long a facial filler lasts depends on what it contains and on how densely it is cross-linked. Hyaluronic acid fillers last between 6 months and 1.5 years.

Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our connective tissue, and it keeps the skin moist, firm and bright.

The three areas of the face

For filler, the face is divided into three areas.

1. The forehead and around the eyes
2. The mid-face: the nose, the cheeks and under the eyes
3. The mouth and the chin

The face must be assessed from the front and from the side. Looking from the side, a line is drawn from the nose to the chin, to check whether the chin is in proportion. If the upper lip sits 4 mm behind that line and the lower lip 2 mm behind it, the chin is not set back.

The procedure

Applied by a specialist, the injection takes only 10 to 15 minutes. Filler placed to suit the anatomy and the proportions of the face looks natural from outside.

Older treatments caused some pain. With today’s products, local anaesthetic can be included in the filler itself, which makes the procedure more comfortable.
