Lip Augmentation

Prof. Dr. Orhan Görgülü1 minute read

Lip filler is the method, and the materials, used to shape and thicken the lips of people who are unhappy with lips that are thin from birth or that have thinned with age.

The material used most is hyaluronic acid.

Planning for the individual

Most patients today want to look beautiful, and they want the beauty to be taken for natural.

Everyone’s lip structure, social situation, way of wearing make-up, relationship between the nose and the lip, expectations and chin shape differ, so the plan should be made for the individual. The filler should suit the structure of that person’s face.

For defining the lip lines and the border, the most suitable fillers are of medium thickness with some elasticity. The lip then keeps working normally and the result stays natural. Women over 40 usually prefer this kind, where the aim is to restore the lip rather than to make it fuller.

How much is used

Between 0.5 and 2 ml is usually used. The amount changes with the length and the thinness of the lip, and with whether both lips are treated. If two syringes are needed, two sessions a week apart are more suitable and better controlled.

How long it lasts

How long a filler stays depends on the brand, on how thick it is, and on how fast your body breaks it down. Some remains after each treatment, so the effect lasts longer over time. Treatment should usually be repeated every 8 to 12 months.

Permanent fillers have largely been abandoned today.
